A dramatic video shared online appears to show water flooding an inside cabin aboard Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas, with a heavy stream cascading through the ceiling panels and quickly soaking the room below.
The incident reportedly happened at around 9pm on 28 July 2026, during an eight-night Eastern Caribbean cruise that departed Fort Lauderdale on 25 July. Water was also said to have reached nearby cabins and the surrounding hallway.
A Cabin Turned Into an Indoor Waterfall
The footage was originally shared on Instagram by a passenger staying beside the affected stateroom. It shows water falling continuously from above, splashing onto the bed, furniture and carpet.
According to the passenger’s caption, the room next door flooded and water spread into surrounding areas. However, it remains unclear exactly how many cabins were affected or whether any guests’ belongings were permanently damaged.
The cause has not been officially confirmed.
A burst pipe or failed plumbing connection seems like the most likely explanation, but Royal Caribbean has not publicly said what caused the leak. There is no suggestion that the water entered because of damage to the ship’s hull, and the cruise continued without any reported delay to its itinerary.
In other words, this looked alarming, but it was almost certainly a localised onboard maintenance problem rather than a “the ship is sinking” situation.
Still, try explaining that calmly while your suitcase is floating across the carpet.
Passengers Reportedly Offered a Future Cruise Discount
One of the biggest talking points online has been the compensation allegedly offered to those affected.
The passenger who shared details of the incident reportedly claimed that impacted guests were offered 50% off a future cruise. Royal Caribbean has not publicly confirmed that offer, so it should be treated as an unverified passenger report rather than an official compensation announcement.
Reddit users were not particularly impressed by the idea.
Several commenters argued that a discount requiring guests to spend more money with the cruise line would not feel like adequate compensation for a flooded cabin, damaged possessions and time lost dealing with the incident.
Others said they would expect a refund, replacement of damaged belongings, complimentary laundry and a move to another cabin.
And, because this is Reddit, plenty of passengers also found room for jokes about “indoor waterfalls,” “shower suites” and premium Titanic experiences.
What Normally Happens After a Cruise Cabin Floods?
Cruise ships have engineers and maintenance teams onboard around the clock, so the first priority would normally be to isolate the leak and stop the flow of water.
After that, crew members could use water-extraction equipment, industrial fans and dehumidifiers to dry the room. If the carpet could not be saved, damaged sections might need to be removed and replaced.
The affected guests would ideally be moved to another available stateroom, although finding spare accommodation can be difficult when a ship is sailing close to full capacity.
Laundry or dry-cleaning assistance would also be a reasonable part of the response if passengers’ clothing and other belongings had been soaked.
At the time of writing, there has been no confirmed public update explaining whether the guests were moved, how quickly the cabin was repaired or whether additional compensation was provided.
It Is Not the First Water Leak on Allure of the Seas
A similar incident was filmed aboard Allure of the Seas in December 2024, when water poured from the ceiling into a passenger corridor and collected outside several cabins.
Passengers later reported that the leak was stopped, the area was cleaned and affected guests were moved to other rooms. That sailing also continued without a wider disruption.
Leaks like this are rare, but they can happen anywhere with an extensive plumbing system, whether that is a hotel, apartment building or cruise ship.
The difference at sea is that passengers cannot simply check into the hotel next door.
Should Future Allure of the Seas Passengers Be Worried?
Probably not.
There is currently no evidence that this was anything more than an isolated technical failure affecting a small section of the ship. Allure of the Seas remained in service, and there has been no reported change to the ship’s wider schedule.
Anyone sailing aboard soon should not assume their cabin is about to become a swimming pool.
However, the incident is a useful reminder to keep electronics, passports and other valuable items off the cabin floor. Using waterproof document pouches and placing expensive belongings on shelves or inside drawers can provide a little extra protection against unexpected leaks.
Most cruise holidays pass without anything remotely like this happening. For the unlucky passengers involved, though, it must have been an incredibly stressful start to their trip.
A cabin upgrade would be nice.
A dry one would be even better.
